Record weekend rainfall causes Clackamas County sewer issues

Heavy rains and flooding near Welches this weekend caused  a raw sewage spill into the Sandy River during a 14-hour shutdown of Clackamas County Service District No. 1 (CCSD #1)’s  Timberline Rim sanitary sewer pump station.

CCSD#1 is in the process of assessing the extent and size of the spill. Maintenance crews from Clackamas County Water Environment Services (WES), responded quickly to the situation.

In addition during the same time period, the Kellogg Creek Water Pollution Control Plant located in Milwaukie and the Tri-City Water Pollution Control plant located in Oregon City, also operated by WES had permit violations stemming from sewage overflows..

CCSD #1 includes the cities of Happy Valley and Damascus and a major portion of urban unincorporated north Clackamas County.  CCSD #1 also serves the City of Milwaukie as a wholesale customer through the Kellogg Creek plant.  The Tri-City Water Pollution Control Plant provides wastewater treatment services to the cities of Gladstone, Oregon City and West Linn.
